of Chelsea, Michigan, age 74, died peacefully Friday, May 22, 2015 with her family at her side. She was born August 11, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Norman G. & Ardith L. (Rust) Smits. Carol was a member of the Chelsea First United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the Christian Home Group, Chancel Choir, and Creative Play. She enjoyed belonging to the United Methodist Bridge Club, “Sit and Stitch”, and Quilting Club.
On Nov. 11, 1961, she married Robert F. Young, and he preceded her in death on April 10, 1968. On December 27, 1970 she married Robert Benedict Jr., and he survives. Other survivors include her mother, Arthith Smits; two sons, Bruce (Sue) Young of Texas, Robert (Carol) Benedict III; three daughters, Michal Ann (Bob) Enders of Middleville, Sandra (Joseph) Lantis of Chelsea, Susan (Bryan) Young-Markey of Illinois; a brother, Norman Smits; a sister, Phyllis Pulver; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her father, Norman Smits.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 27, 11:00 am at Chelsea First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Joy Barrett officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery, Chelsea. The family received friends Cole Funeral Chapel Monday 6-8 pm and Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 pm, and at the church Wednesday 10-11 am.
