Cole Funeral Chapel is a family-owned funeral home committed to caring for your family. An independent funeral home in Chelsea, Michigan, our mission is to meet your needs whatever they may be. We provide a wide range of services, from sitting down with you to discuss future needs to grief counseling after the death of a loved one.Our funeral home was founded in 1898, and was purchased by Donald Cole in 1977. His son, Allen, bought the funeral home from his father in 1999, continuing the tradition of service to the Chelsea area.

Cremation Services
We offer choices in cremation service, including:
- direct cremation with no services
- cremation followed by a memorial service or visitation time
- a complete viewing and funeral followed by cremation
We want to help your family choose services that fit your needs. We will walk you through your options without pressuring you, and we will help you to compare the costs of different options. Regardless of your choice, we will treat your loved one with respect, we will help you write and place obituaries, we will obtain death certificates promptly, and help you chose the final resting place for your loved one's ashes. We will not try to sell you services or merchandise you do not need.

Steps for Planning Ahead
We understand how difficult it is to plan funeral services, so our staff is available to help you in any way that we can. Please call us and we will walk you through every step of planning, and we will offer choices to make the services just right for your family. To help you understand the process, here are some of the steps you can choose to do ahead of time:
Funeral Planning
☐ Fill out basic pre-arrangement information sheet. 15-20 minutes, no charge. This provides the basic information we need to write obituaries and fill out the death certificates. It gives us some information about the type of services you want. Click here to download the Pre-Arrangement form
☐ Fill out funeral service information sheet. 10-15 minutes, no charge. This provides information about the funeral / memorial service you would like: who should lead it, type of music, readings, etc. Click here to download the Funeral Service Information Sheet
☐ Itemize funeral goods and services. 30-60 minutes with funeral home staff, usually at the funeral home, no charge. You choose the goods and services you want, and we will create an itemized funeral bill so you can know the anticipated costs. This is an estimate only, but lets you make many of the decisions in advance, and guides us and your family as to your wishes.
☐ Pre-pay your funeral invoice. 15-30 minutes with funeral home staff. After itemizing the services you want (see previous choice), you may pay for the funeral in one lump sum, or in payments, and lock in the prices for your funeral bill. This saves your family from worrying about paying for your funeral.
Memorial Planning
☐ Choose your cemetery marker. 30-60 minutes, cost vary greatly. You may choose the type of stone or gravemarker you want, and lay out the exact design for your stone. You may wish to save the information until after the death, or have the stone cut and delivered.
☐ Plan a memory slideshow. 30-60 minutes, $95. Choose 30-70 photos to be put into a slideshow that can be played at the visitation and/or funeral. You may put sticky notes on back to indicate an order to the photos if you wish, or to label slides. You may choose to narrate the photos in your voice.
☐ Write a letter to your loved ones. No cost, time will vary greatly. You may write a letter to your spouse or children to be read and re-read after your death. It could be read publicly, or just given to those you choose after your death. We will be happy to file it with your pre-arrangement. Please put in sealed envelope with the name of the recipient on the outside.

Alexander Czinski
Age 66, died Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at his home. Alexander was born August 1, 1957 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Stanley and Mary (Bilak) Czinski.
Al was a graduate of Huron High School. During his working life, he was a warehouse supervisor for Hutzel Plumbing and Heating before his retirement. “Big Al” loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, traveling the world with Barb, and visiting family and friends.

of Ypsilanti, Michigan, age 43, died Monday, May 13, 2024, from injuries due to a motorcycle accident. He was born August 7, 1980, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of Cyrus “Cy” & Rowena May (Beebe) AtLee.
Jason graduated from Chelsea High School in 1999. He worked for 17 years as Zingerman's Mail Order Manager. Jason earned his motorcycle mechanics license and was looking forward to starting his own business. He loved dogs, enjoyed photography, pinstriping, playing in several bands, and especially found joy in motorcycle riding. He considered the Washtenaw Alano Club his family. J always made himself available to help others with an open hand and loved to be funny and make people laugh.

Kirk Pitman Hansen of Ann Arbor, Michigan, formerly of Lake Isabella, age 49, passed away on May 14, 2024. He was born August 5, 1974, in Columbia, Missouri, the son of John Christian and Elizabeth Ann (Hornyak) Hansen.
Kirk graduated from Chippewa Hills High School in Remus in 1994. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature from Central Michigan University in 1998. In 2000, he received a Master of Fine Arts in Writing and Poetics from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. In recent years, he lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and did contract technical writing.

of Chelsea, Michigan, formerly of Pinckney. age 88, died Monday, May 13, 2024, at the Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born April 7, 1936, in Plymouth, Michigan, the daughter of Russell Henry & Virginia (Berner) VanGilder. Jan graduated from Fenton High School in 1954, earned her Bachelors degree in education from Eastern Michigan University, and a Master’s degree from University of Michigan. She taught Physical Education and English at Garden City East High School, and later was a counselor. She coached basketball, softball, and track, and was Michigan's first woman High School Athletic Director. She taught for 38 years before her retirement in 1994. After her retirement, she enjoyed riding her bicycle, and was a member of the Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society. She has been active at Faith Baptist Church in Chelsea, since 2005, including traveling on overseas missions.
Robert Lee Rose
of Dexter, Michigan, age 89, died Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Trinity Health in Ypsilanti. He was born June 25, 1934, in Milford, Michigan, the son of Cleo G. and Leola (Sackett) Rose.
Bob lived in Dexter all of his life. He graduated from Dexter High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Bob worked for Federal Screw Works in Chelsea for many years, retiring in 1989. Bob also worked along-side his in-laws, Robert and Eunice Murphy, at the Dexter Food Lockers (which was located on Main Street where the Painted Trout is located) where they butchered and packed meat for local farmers. He was a lifetime member of St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ in Dexter. He was a lifetime Freemason with the Dexter Lodge, and later with Ann Arbor.Read more ...Noah David S. van Reesema
Noah David Siewertsz van Reesema – Accomplished student and athlete, curious reader and traveler, loving family member and trusted friend, passed away to the next life on April 20, 2024. Noah was born on December 8, 1997, in Northville, Michigan. From an early age, Noah loved spending time with his extended family “up north” at the lake cottage skiing in the winter, boating in the summer, and relaxing with his books in the evening or playing strategy board games with his family. He especially cherished making new friends at the YMCA Storer Summer Camp in Jackson. As he grew, he was able to ski out west and travel with his family throughout Europe. His early love for soccer turned to football and track in high school. Noah graduated from Chelsea High School in 2016. He made deep friendships competing as a teammate in sports. Playing football as a wide receiver and running track in 300-meter hurdles and high jump gave him the opportunity to experience State finals competitions in both sports with his friends. Noah enjoyed playing saxophone and participated in “Company C,” a singing and dance ensemble, as well as finding peace in playing the piano at home. Noah was baptised at New Life Lutheran Church in Northville, MI and he was confirmed at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Chelsea, MI where he was a lifelong member.

of Michigan Center, Michigan, age 57 passed away May 5th, 2024, at his home in Michigan Center. He was born May 20, 1966, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of Richard Allen Sr. and Marjorie Louise (Harrison) Green.
Richard went to Michigan Center high school. He first started in the plastics industry at Autoform and later went to DT manufacturing whereas the Thermoforming manager he grew the thermoforming department into a top tier automotive supplier.Richard met his love Donette Slone at Donette’s dad’s funeral. On January 27, 1994, Richard married Donette Green (Slone) in Jackson, Michigan.
